horse-wagonThe Taylor Hose and Engine Company No. 2 was first founded in 1899, the first recorded meeting took place December 13th 1899. The original name was Century Hose Company. The company was organized by a small group of men who purchased a fire wagon and stored it in a garage on Union St. In Taylor. When an alarm was called, the men ran to a local funeral director, Tommy Jack Davis to borrow his horses to pull the fire wagon to the fire. The first fire truck purchased was a hand cranked American Lafrance, hard tire, chain driven fire truck, this truck was housed at the old library on Union St. The next move was when we purchased a two story building on Church St. with a one bay garage and meeting hall on the second floor. That building was used for several years until 1972 when the company moved ahead with building a brand new station at 117 Union St., this remains our current location. We currently house a rescue/pumper and command truck at this location.

Back in 1948 there was talk of organizing an ambulance service for the residents, after raising funds for approximately two years the company purchased its first ambulance in 1950, a 1942 Packard. This ambulance was purchased from the Wolfington Body Co.; the company provided ambulance service to the Borough for 49 years and in 1999 had to make a touch decision to discontinue ambulance service due to the lack of membership to operate it in a timely manner. The company to this date is still 100% volunteer and has currently merged with Taylor Hose and Engine Co. No. 3. In 2005 both companies decided it was time to sit down and examine the possibility of merging companies, through several meetings this merger took place on February 1st 2007, and as of July 13th 2007 we have taken on the name of Taylor Fire and Rescue. This merger took place to better serve our community and give both companies a strong foundation. We have been serving Taylor Borough for nearly 108 years and will continue to provide service for several more years to come.

first-firetruck-no3On May 25th 1949 Taylor Hose and Engine Company No. 3 was organized, we housed our first apparatus in the garage of John Colan at the rear of his restaurant on S. Main St.

The first piece of apparatus was a 1928 American Lafrance which was purchased from Wyoming Borough Pa.; after the truck was purchased we were able to put it in service with the help Scranton Fire Dept. who donated the equipment and hose needed to get started. This truck was used for 4 years and in 1953 our company moved ahead with the purchase of our first brand new piece of apparatus, a 1953 American Lafrance. This was made possible by running bingo on Sunday nights and an annual fireman’s picnic. After many years were spent in John Colans garage and several more years of fund raising, we decided to build our first and current fire station. In December of 1961 we opened the doors at our new fire station. The building is still in service to this day and is located at 1137 Reynolds Ave., just a short distance from our first location on S. Main Street. After having our 1953 American Lafrance for 24 years we felt it was time to again move ahead with the purchase of a new apparatus. We purchased another American Lafrance in 1977. In 1977 we had a very active membership of 65 members, and also had a Ladies auxiliary that was very active and did many fund raisers to assist the Fire Department which made it possible to make the purchases we had to keep up to date. In 1994 we again felt it was time to update our apparatus to move up to current standards, we went ahead with the purchase of a 1995 KME which is currently in service today. In 1999 we celebrated our 50th anniversary. In 2005 we began talks with Taylor Hose and Engine Company No.2 about possibly merging fire departments and becoming one, this became a reality as Of February 1st 2007 and on July 13th 2007 we took on the new name of Taylor Fire and Rescue.
